Destination

Rifugio ai Caduti dell’Adamello alle Lobbie (3040m)

Turn-by-turn directions

There are basically three routes that lead to the mountain hut.

MATAROT CLIMB

The Matarot climb along trail number 241. Starting from Rifugio Bedole, you follow the road that leads to the cableway. Here, the actual trail 241 begins. After a short section, you pass through the vicinity of the enchanting Malga Matarot Bassa. Leaving it on the left, you continue along the path, which gradually becomes more difficult. The route develops among mountain pines and low vegetation, and the surface of the path is not always easy going. You climb until you reach the screes at the base of the rocky strip located on the right hand side of the massive Cascate del Matarot [waterfalls], clearly visible in front of you.

You now proceed along a fitted trail (still marked 241) and you climb rock steps, following the frequent white and red markers and helping yourself with (or securing yourself to) the steel cables. This section of the trail, excellently marked out and equipped, can become very tough and dangerous in case of fog and, particularly, in wet, snowy, or icy conditions. Once you get past the fitted section, you continue on the path marked with white and red markers and “ometti” (small mounds of stones stacked to mark out the route). The path stays on the right hand side of the Lobbie glacierette (facing the mountain), which slowly appears before you. With a final effort you reach Passo della Lobbia Alta (3015 m) and from there Rifugio Caduti dell’Adamello (3040 m).

This route requires the necessary gear (via ferrata gear, helmet), suitable physical preparation, and safe knowledge of progressions on fitted routes.

To return, you follow the same route backwards. [GPS track]

FROM RIFUGIO MANDRON

The following two routes both converge at Rifugio Mandron, arriving either from Passo Presena (Passo Tonale ski lift facilities), or from Val Genova - Rifugio Bedole.

From Rifugio Mandron, you climb the route (trail 236) that leads to Passo Lobbia Alta, where Rifugio Caduti dell’Adamello is located. Since this excursion takes place at high altitude and partially on a glacier, you will need the necessary equipment (pick, crampons, rope), and the necessary knowledge of ice climbing techniques.
