Col Rodella dominates the entire Val di Fassa. The view from Rifugio Des Alpes embraces all the main mountain groups in the area.

Author’s recommendation

On beautiful sunny days, from the mountain hut’s terrace, you can enjoy the spectacle of numerous colourful paragliders taking off from the grassy face of Col Rodella and searching for thermal currents on the sunny sides.

Destination

Rifugio Des Alpes (2400m)

Turn-by-turn directions

At Campitello di Fassa, at the entrance to the “Strada de Salin”, in the direction of the beginning of Val Duron, you will notice the SAT signs. Following the directions for trail 529, you walk up a stairway in the direction of “Pian”, “Forcella Rodella” and “Rifugio Des Alpes”.

You climb to beyond the town, following this trail, and reach the hamlet of “Pian”. From here you can enjoy beautiful views of the bottom of the valley.

You cross the hamlet and continue on the meadows above, sticking to trail 529.

The trail enters the woods and climbs further up. It is necessary to pay attention to a fork in the path, at an elevation of about 1610 m, in a place called I Pins. Here, you leave trail 529 and take trail 528 on the right hand side, which climbs up the slope of “Ronch”, and travels beneath the line of the Col Rodella ski lift, which is always clearly visible.

At an elevation of about 1990 m, you pass by “palo 1” [pole 1] of the ski lift, and head into a beautiful grassy, panoramic valley.

You continue along path 528, now on an easier slope, and at an elevation of about 2200 m, in “Pedonel di Sopra” locality, you take trail 530, which climbs up from Canazei.

At each step, you enjoy fabulous views that open onto the massive mountain ranges below. A final, beautiful section on a meadow allows you to reach the uphill station of the Col Rodella ski lift. Just a few more steps and you reach Rifugio Des Alpes.

You return the same way you came, or you can take the Col Rodella ski lift back down.

VARIATIONS:

You can reach Rifugio Des Alpes directly and comfortably on the “Col Rodella” ski lift.

Or with the walk that starts from Passo Sella - Rifugio Valentini. In this case, you follow the forest road that passes through Rif. Salei, Forcella Rodella, and continues towards Rif. Des Alpes on the Rodella. Climbing time: About 1 hour - cumulative elevation gain about 220m - About 2.0 Km
