This short itinerary leads to “Bocca de Lè” and the nearby Cima Nodice, touching a number of scattered trenches along the way, excavated on the mountain slopes during the First World War and bearing witness to the wartime involvement of this corner of Trentino.

Unlike what you might expect, the entire wartime trail is in a state of abandonment, which is a real shame because a little restoration work would enhance the value of this natural balcony with a privileged view overlooking Lake Garda.

Destination

Pregasina - church (532 m)

Turn-by-turn directions

From the church take the dirt road south up to a crossroads signposted with SAT signs, where a steep uphill concrete-paved road begins. Turn right and start ascending.

After a short while the road bends right and the direction changes northwards. You pass by a house on the left and the road turns into a trail.

At about 660 m you come to a crossroads with trail No. 429, which leads to Bocca de Lè. Continue straight ahead (signposted) uphill into the wood.

The trail narrows and climbs along the east slope of Cima de Lè.

At 790 m the trail bifurcates once again, leading on the right to cima Nodice, via the Scala Santa (or Holy Steps, dug into the rock, with a metal handrail and some unprotected stretches), and climbing on the left towards Bocca de Lè, up to the mountain pass, where there is an emergency refuge housed in the old war emplacements, with a commemorative plaque and a metal cross on a triangular rock.

The uphill stretch continues on the left up to the location described previously.

During the ascent the view becomes ever more beautiful and can be especially appreciated in spring and autumn.

Pass behind the plaque and the iron cross and, skirting the refuge on the left, continue uphill between the trenches towards the peak.

The ascent climbs from the west to the east and then switches, after the initial stretch, to the slope facing Pregasina.

Trace your steps back to the departure point.

Getting there

From Val di Ledro drive to the church of Pregasina , which is located to the south of the village and can be seen from the road during the approach. You can park either near the entrance to the church (few parking spaces) or beneath the retaining wall, on the east side of the church, where there is a much larger car park. The itinerary begins just behind the church.
