9th Outing: 3 July - Via Hilde
Via "Hilde" ("Hilde" route) at Pilastro Konrad → Ombretta (length 250m/ diff. 6C / opened by E. Boldrin, G. Damian and A. Grisenti in 2006)
Edy Boldrin and Giacomo Damian are two very active openers from Alto Adige who have dozens of new routes in the Dolomites to their credit. One of their merits is to have enhanced the value of many faces, half known or little considered from the climbing point of view, always with a special eye for repeaters: as a matter of fact, a common feature of their work is the excellent pegging, almost always left entirely on site, with spit belays to ensure maximum safety over time.
On the DoloMitiche tour we decided to repeat the "Hilde" route not only for the beautiful rock and Val Contrin splendid landscape, but also for the name that goes with it. Edy and Giacomo had enjoyed, while opening the route, the hospitality of the family who runs Malga Contrin, and they dedicated in return the pillar to Konrad, the dairyman, and the route going through it to Hilde, his wife.
A sign of attention worth mentioning for people who not only preserve the mountain territory with their work but also enrich the experience of climbers.
*yet another "thanks" to Lorenzo Battisti, an alpine guide from Val di Fassa, for the logistical support!
Access: from the village of Alba di Canazei, in Val di Fassa, reach the downhill station of the Sass Ciampac cableway. Here starts the forest road that goes up into Val Contrin (SAT 602 path) and reaches the homonymous Rifugio and Malga (1.30h from Valley). From here you can walk up in half an hour to the route start.
Return: abseiling along the route (60m ropes recommended).
