Nicola Tondini represents the "present" of Dolomites climbing at its best. He belongs to a small group of enthusiasts who continue to explore thoroughly the potential of modern free climbing even on great faces, somehow picking up the baton of a tradition in which mental commitment is one predominant and essential factor of mountain climbing.
This implies adopting strict personal ethics, and facts do demonstrate that it is possible to gloss over fanaticisms about nail styles (Spit / No Spit), and accomplish work of absolute value in blending the various approaches. This is the case of Canto del Magnificat, the route we chose to represent the DoloMitiche tour. Opened between 2002 and 2003 by Nicola Tondini and Robertino Parolari, the route runs through the entire great Western Face of Sass Pordoi, alternating "classic" stretches to more extreme sections, marble rock and delicate rock, nicely putting together all that Dolomites climbing can offer!

Access: from the town of Canazei in Val di Fassa reach Pian Schiavaneis along the road to Passo Sella. From here take path 647, which climbs up Val Lasties on its orographic left and leads to the base of the face, right near the starting point (lowest point). Time: 25 minutes.

Return: from the summit plateau, head east and you will reach in a short time Forcella Pordoi. From here you can return along Val Lasties or, alternatively, go straight down to Passo Pordoi (in which case have a second car ready for the return trip).
