The soul of the Pale mountains - from Rifugio Antermoia to Rifugio Gardeccia
From Rifugio Antermoia, path 584 crosses the pass of the same name (2770 m) and goes along the west flank of the Catinaccio d'Antermoia to the Principe pass and refuge(2600 m).
You can get here also along a spectacular via ferrata that crosses the massif, passing the summit at an altitude of 3002 metres (only for experts with equipment). You continue south on path 584, which, after a steep section, slopes downward through Val del Vajolet to the Vajolet and Preuss refuges (2246 m) where you can admire the mythical Torri del Vajolet and the east wall of the Catinaccio. We are in the centre of one of the most famous areas of mountaineering of all time, where the pioneers of climbing, from Paul Preuss to Tita Piaz, achieved legendary feats. From here, about an hour's walk takes you to Rifugio Re Alberto I (waymark 542), where you can admire the southern side of the Torri del Vajolet. After returning to the Vajolet and Preuss refuges, follow path 546 down to Rifugio Gardeccia.
