At the foot of the Queen of the Dolomites - from Rifugio Fuchiade to Rifugio Contrin
From Rifugio Fuchiade, a steep and exhausting path (waymark 607) that in this section is part of the Alta Via n 2 of the Dolomites / Sentiero Italia, climbs in the heart of the Cirelle (altitude gain 700 metres) to Passo delle Cirelle (2683 m).
The environment from this viewpoint is fabulous, with a crown of peaks over 3000 metres high. To the south the emerald green fields of Fuchiade and the unique outline of the Pale di San Martino, to the west the chain of Cima Uomo and Col Ombert, to the east the calcareous contours of Cima Ombrettola and Sasso Vernale, and to the northeast, silhouetted against the skyline, the top part of the gigantic and compact vertical wall of the Queen of the Dolomites, the Marmolada. Here we are in the heart of the Ladin mountains and behind every stone may be hidden the characters of the legends that feature this territory. Easier than the climb, path 607 goes down across wide screes and below Sasso Vernale turns sharp left, descending steadily towards Rifugio Contrin (2016 m).
