Museo Castel Stenico
The strategically important Castello di Stenico is a museum of art and history.
The Castello di Stenico is one of the oldest castles in the Trentino, and used to be a fortress of great strategic relevance. Built on a high, rocky hill with a spectacular view over the Outer Giudicarie basin in the Terme di Comano area, the castle used to be the stronghold of the area West of Trento, and became property of the Bishopric from the 1250s onwards. Refurbishing works have been carried out by the Autonomous Province of Trento.
Its numerous rooms are decorated with furniture, paintings, arms and firearms as well as age-old tools for everyday use, all of them borrowed from the collections held by Castello del Buonconsiglio di Trento - of which the Castello di Stenico is a branch. The Judgement Hall houses a section featuring ancient locks, keys and coffers, while the Meeting Hall is used to host concerts, thank to its excellent acoustics. The rooms in the Southern wing boast an archaeological section, exhibiting artefacts from the Fiavè lake-dwelling site.
