Guided visit to the sawmill "La Sia"
Guided visit to the venetian sawmill of Penìa di Canazei, organised by the Ladin Museum
Programme: in Penìa di Canazei (Strèda de Ciamp Trujan) is "La Sia", the last surviving hydraulic plunger sawmill in Val di Fassa for cutting timber, powered by the water of the Avisio torrent. Its history dates back, according to some documents, to the 16th century, although the current covered structure dates back to 1929. A restoration in 1985-1988 fully restored the functioning of this jewel of mechanical engineering, at the foot of the Marmolada, so much so that today the sawmill is still used for the needs of the inhabitants. During the guided tour, the plant will be put into operation and you will be able to witness a practical demonstration of the sawyer's work. In addition, topics related to forest management will be explored.
Timetables: on Fridays at 11 a.m. (duration about 45 mins). Mandatory phone reservation at the Ladin Museum.
Price: € 5; free for Val di Fassa Guest Card holders and children up to 6 years old.
