A century has passed since the First World War, but some places still bear the mark. Symbol of the Great War in Val di Fassa is without doubt the Marmolada. Its control was a strategic element for access to Fassa and Tyrol. Above 3,000 metres the war became a duel, especially when the "Queen" was transformed into an imposing fort by the opposing factions. The famous Ice City was created inside the mountain with a network of frozen tunnels and underground caves.
