FROM NICCOLÒ DELL'ARCA TO FRANCESCO HAYEZ
80 MASTERPIECES REVEAL THE STORY OF AN ENDLESS PURSUIT OF BEAUTY
A private art collection constitutes the creation of a symbolic soul-gym, a place where intimate decisions - sometimes thought out, sometimes painful - are made tangible. Sometimes one forgets that its true vocation is to greet the public, to offer itself up to their gaze, to tell them its story.
And this is what the Cavallini Sgarbi Collection will be doing from 6th June onwards at Caldes, in the magnificent setting of Castel Caldes. Offering up a thrilling 4-century odyssey that begins in the late 15th century, this unique selection of 80 works from the renowned collection will accompany visitors «From Niccolò dell’Arca to Francesco Hayez». Together with the Cavallini Sgarbi Foundation, the Elisabetta Sgarbi Foundation and under the curatorship of Contemplazioni, this exhibition is organised by the Val di Sole Tourism Agency and promoted by the Provincia Autonoma di Trento, Municipality of Caldes, Trentino Marketing and the Val di Sole Community.
The show has the intimate atmosphere of a private collection. It is the outcome of a long, passionate pursuit by renowned art critic Vittorio Sgarbi and his mother Rina Cavallini, who purchased the works in auctions all over the world. Vittorio remembers his mother and «best man», with these words: «she was an extension of my own thoughts and, indeed, my life. I'd indicate the name of an artist, the place and the auction house. And she'd then stalk the prey... and pounce».
