Sonata for Tubes
Arias of classical music for unusual instruments
Unusual music or unprecedented circus? It is the circus of invention.Sung and played live, Sonata per tubi is a contemporary circus performance that explores the musical possibilities of circus objects and tools, transforming them into musical instruments through ingenuity and the use of technology.
"Everything we touch or do emits sound: whether circus tools, the stage, or ourselves."
The concert begins: flying pieces of pipe go to make up a double bass and a cello. The music progresses between Rossini, Bach, Beethoven, Pink Floyd, Rolling Stones and Luis Armstrong.
Then she arrives: a young girl, a modern princess, who upsets every harmony. The main myth of teenagers all over the world is that of the hero. In every teenager there is, in fantasy, in thoughts and in the deepest areas of the soul, the need to do something heroic, something special, that is outside the everyday to become an adult.
The circus fuels the trio's madness in counterpoint with claves that become saxes and with sound diabols. A crescendo of polyphonic songs in three voices, dances and tests of courage, both musical and circus, ensues, leading to a final ritual for the passage from adolescence to adult life. The plucking of the musical clown brings out the souls of the three actors who, in a language that is universal and accessible to all, meet and clash in the magical game of life.
