From the pasture to the ball of wool... the history of wool at Malga Jumela
Program: discover the secrets of shearing with the shepherds who spend the entire summer on the Buffaure pastures. Shearing is an ancient practice that requires talent, ability and strength. It is important both for the well-being of the sheep, which is relieved from the warm winter fleece, and for the precious wool that will be obtained by spinning. What exactly does the shepherd do? How does he live in the mountains from June to September? How does he behave in case of a storm? How does he spin the wool? These and other questions will be answered every Tuesday at 10.00 a.m.
Duration: about 30/45 minutes.
How to get there: take the gondola lift up to Buffaure, then walk along path no. 643 (45 min.; no strollers). Alternatively, departure from Camping Vidor or from the "Adventure Park" of Pera, following the forest road (1.30 hours of walking).
Cost of the activity: 20 euro per family, including a tasty souvenir of participation (cheese, milk and yogurt). Reservation required. Ticket for the lifts (cable car) and lunch in the mountain hut are to be paid by the participants. Valid for PanoramaPass. In case of bad weather the activity is going to be canceled.
