Walk on a natural trail from Ciampedìe to Roda di Vael
ATTENTION: The opening of cultural and tourist sites, access to them, to public transport and to the services described in these pages is governed by the containment measures put in place by the government authorities and the Autonomous Province of Trento to deal with the COVID-19 health emergency. The rules may vary over time and provide for the application of different security measures — from closure, to social distancing, to the mandatory use of personal protective equipment such as gloves and masks. We therefore ask you to consult the section Travelling safely on this website and to contact the managers directly for updated information on how to gain access.
Programme: departure from "Ciampedìe" at 9.00 .m. towards the Roda di Vael, either along the path "Vial de le feide" or along the "Alta Via dei Fassani". Here we enter the history of the valley, along the stages of rural life before the tourism. In the past, the trade in Val di Fassa was mainly based on the growth of potatoes, wheat and rye. Step by step, through the centuries, small farms started to be established and this brought soon to the milk processing and to the making of the top quality cheeses that are famous nowadays. During the walk, we will have the chance to admire the most beautiful flowers typical of the Dolomites, such as the edelweiss and the nigritella. Moreover, we will also have the chance to meet the marmots and see their lair into the ground, hear the sentinels whistling and, probably, see them playing or sunbathing. From the refuge Roda de Vael, we will go on along the wide and comfortable path "Girzelweg" (path no. 349) at 2,200 metres. The itinerary is entitled to "Hirzel", an editor from Leipzig, passionate hiker in love with the Dolomites, who promoted the realisation of this track, which is almost horizontal. 100 metres at East, we will stop to watch, with a bit of luck, the marmots in the so called "Vallone di Pasché" valley below. Going on, we will reach the monument dedicated to Theodor Christomannos, a bronze eagle of three metres, placed in a panoramic position over Val di Fassa and Val d’Ega. We will go back to Costalunga pass by chair lift, where we will have the chance to admire the huge summer residence of princess "Sissi", the Grand Hotel Carezza. Once at the bottom, the bus SAD back to Vigo and Pera di Fassa is at 2.20/30 p.m. (against payment).
Meeting point: by the top station of the cable car. Suitable clothes and shoes are required.
Registration: not required. The activity is organised by the chair lift company Catinaccio and it is included in the PanoramaPass or in the lift ticket. The trail is not suitable for strollers. Packed-lunch or lunch at the refuges Roda de Vael or Baita Marino Pederiva is optional, the arrival at "Vael" is scheduled at 12.30 p.m. In case of bad weather the excursion will be cancelled.
During the activities, we kindly ask you to respect the social distancing and, if necessary, to correctly wear a face mask.
