Reality and Tradition. The Art of Vittorio Melchiori (1891-1951)
Reality and Tradition. The Art of Vittorio Melchiori (1891-1951) is the title of the exhibition that will open to the public on Friday, October 7, 2022. It is the first retrospective ever dedicated to Trentino painter Vittorio Melchiori (1891- 1951).
The exhibition, curated by Domizio Cattoi, conservator of the Museum, aims to bring to the attention of the general public the artistic production and human story of a very talented painter, praised by his contemporaries for his remarkable technical mastery, but later neglected by critics and unjustly forgotten.
In the exhibition visitors will be able to admire more than sixty works by Vittorio Melchiori including paintings, drawings, sketches, and cartoons. There are five sections into which the exhibition is divided: portraits, sacred and literary themes, landscapes, still lifes, and preparatory studies for monumental works. A video will show Melchiori's works preserved in churches in Trentino-Alto Adige, particularly stained glass windows, frescoes and altarpieces.
