Hiking along the trenches of Monte Corno
Following the Captains’ tracks come with us along the trails of history!
From Nago, picturesque village nearby Lake Garda, climbing up the slopes of Monte Corno, we will enjoy a truly striking view. Immersed in the greenery of a holly oak forest, we will walk together along the defensive system of the Austro-Hungarian army, perfectly restored. But history is not the only highlight along the route: we will find also the ‘marmitte dei giganti’, impressive rocky formations of glacial origin.
From Nago (220 m) we quickly climb uphill towards the “Belvedere” crags, famous for rock climbing. We follow the old stone path entering in short into the holly oak forest. From the main path short we take a short detour toward the ‘marmitte dei giganti’ and the WWI shooting posts. We reach then the chestnut forest of Monte Corno (400m) in roughly 40 mins and from here we continue towards “La Busa dei Capitani” (480m), where we will visit the ruins of the command posts. Along the path SAT 637 we reach the peak Tre Croci (580m), offering a stunning view on northern lake Garda. A short break and a visit to the restored tunnels before heading back along different trails, before crossing path SAT 63t again, which takes us back to the starting point.
