Garda Jazz Festival - Solitude
Paolo Botti solo
[EN] “The dimension of playing in solitude is a precious moment in which the musician can retrace his steps with his mind and sound, reinterpret the sounds of his past, of his most ancestral memory, giving them new shapes from time to time”.
Paolo Botti is an all-round artist who grew up with a solid classical basis. He arrived to the world of improvisation relatively late, but with the richness of a creative wave full of deep meaning and knowledge.
After rigorous academic studies as a violist, he devoted himself to jazz and improvised music. He has collaborated with many important musicians including Franco D’Andrea, Bruno Tommaso, Giorgio Gaslini, Dave Liebman, Tristan Honsiger, Dave Burrell and William Parker, and has performed in many festivals and events in Italy, Europe, Asia and Africa.
He has taken part in some 40 recordings – 6 to his name – and has been voted several times among the best soloists and new talents in the annual poll by the Italian monthly magazine Musica Jazz.
His solo work ‘Angels and Ghosts’ dedicated to the music of Albert Ayler has been widely applauded and was voted 3rd album of the year in top jazz 2010.
