Garda Jazz Festival - Nightfall
Till Brönner & Dieter Ilg
Till Brönner: tromba, trumpet and vocals
Dieter Ilg: double bass
Some "musical constellations" are so obvious that they beg the question why they did not get together long ago. One of these constellations is the duo formed by trumpeter Till Brönner and bassist Dieter Ilg. Theirs is a long-standing collaboration, which resulted in the 2018 Nightfall album. Both musicians have long been counted among the standard bearers of German and European jazz.
Brönner has recorded albums in a very wide range of groups and has collaborated with great jazz and pop musicians such as Pat Metheny, Dave Brubeck, Chaka Khan, Tony Bennett, Kurt Elling, Annie Lennox, Al Di Meola, Arturo Sandoval, Sergio Mendes, Benny Golson and many others. In 2016 he was invited to play with other greats at the White House by Barack Obama.
In the 90s, Ilg explored and arranged German folk songs for jazz, collaborating with musicians like Randy Brecker, Charlie Mariano or Nguyen Le and he played in the legendary quintet with Albert Mangelsdorff and Wolfgang Dauner.
When Brönner and Ilg meet, they bring together not only a chapter or a few episodes from the history of jazz, but a good part of the future of jazz music. Despite their personal fame, neither likes to pose as a superstar; they are simply two musicians who have a lot to say to each other and who take all the time they need to say it well.
