The project “Around Ornette” pays homage to the saxophonist Ornette Coleman, father of Free Jazz, and to all musicians who gathered around him, from Charlie Haden, Don Cherry, Ed Blackwell – ‘historic’ members of his famous quartet – to Dewey Redman and Paul Bley.
Protagonists at Garda Jazz four young musicians led by Giordano Grossi, considered one of the most interesting improvisers of the new Italian jazz scene, who has also recorded several albums as a leader.
With him on stage Piero Bittolo Bon, one of the most active and sought-after saxophonists in the jazz scene and improvised music in Italy, member of the long-established collective El Gallo Rojo. His research and experiments with saxophone sounds resulted in the solo project "SPELUNKER", promoted on tour in Italy, Europe and the US.
Mirko Cisilino, very passionate about composing and arranging from a young age, has worked in recent years mainly in jazz and improvisation and has performed in many festivals in Italy and Europe, collaborating also in several theatre productions.
Nelide Bandello, another historic member of El Gallo Rojo collective, leader of Bar Tritolo trio and Leibniz quintet, founder of the improvisation chamber ensemble Einfalt with whom he experiments alternative methods of music writing.
