Feast in "Turchia" district
Ancient handicraft and cooking traditions in the picturesque Moena’s district
Tradition and handicraft inside the typical haylofts called "tabià", folk music and Ladin food are the true protagonists of the feast that will take place from Friday, 9th August to Sunday, 11th August in Moena, in the so called "Turchia" district.
According to the legend, in 1663, after the defeat of the Turkish in Vienna, a soldier, seeking to return home, crossed San Pellegrino Pass, but fell exhausted near to the last house in the district of Moena. The infidel was rescued and given food to eat. It caused such a commotion that the district’s inhabitants were called Turks. This picturesque district, with its ancient houses painted with frescos, is full of history and tradition. Its symbol is the head of a Turk wearing a turban carved on a fountain, while its flag reproduces a crescent moon.
