Extinction
The most important exhibition at MUSE in 2016/2017
From the past extinctions of the greatest species on earth to the latest model of the sixth mass extinction possibly caused by humans, this temporary exhibition will offer food for thoughts and actions to any curious and conscious visitor. Homo sapiens is the main character of this project, self-aware and creative but invasive and “unsustainable” as well.
Our species extinguished mega fauna, but also other humans, as it is showcased in the exhibition by a number of extinguished or deeply threatened vertebrates, and narrated by charismatic species and their little-known stories.
Extinction is a provocative call to reflect together and to confront on the “other side” of this phenomenon, to reconsider our knowledge and the possible cultural excesses. The playful recipe for “How to avoid the extinction in 10 moves” could stimulate ideas for a sustainable future, for preserving nature while developing our society. The exhibition is the current result of an on-going research and science communication project on the concept of extinction, in collaboration with influential Italian Universities and Museums.
