Faith, hope and charity
The Voci all'Opera group performs sacred solo and choral pieces.
The proposed Rossini chorus is the Trois chœurs religieux (1844), for female voices and piano.
A page from the Péchés de vieillesse not so often performed, dedicated to the theological virtues: faith, hope and charity (hence the title of the concert).
Although characterised by Rossini's typical lyricism, the sober polyphonic conducting of the voices is emblematic, a symbolic choice, probably, in accordance with the personification of the virtues that invite the faithful to righteousness. In spite of the clarity and apparent simplicity perceivable when listening, these three pieces certainly require careful study and considerable vocal commitment, as the extensions, intervals and, at times, harmonic conducting prove not to be easy to achieve.
The solo pieces are taken from the great repertoire and range from Mozart to Verdi
