Brotherhood Festival
A message of peace from the trenches of WWI - 41st edition
An important event to condemn all wars and to celebrate peace, bringing together people of different nationalities, Austrians and Italians that were once on enemy fronts that are now united under the European flag: this is the meaning behind the traditional «Festa della Fratellanza» Brotherhood Festival, celebrated on August 26th 2018 at Passo Paradiso, just above Passo del Tonale. This location is also a symbol of the «White War», where the lives of many soldiers from both war fronts were sacrificed, both Italian and Austro-Hungarian soldiers. This event, which was created by the late Emilio Serra from Vermiglio who for years retrieved and collected war relics and who was also the founder of the local «Museo della Guerra Bianca» (White War Museum), includes the participation of the following delegations: the Land-Standschützen of the historic County of Tyrol, representatives of the Austrian Black Cross, Schützen, Alpini (Mountain Troops) and volunteers from Val di Sole and Valle Camonica (part of the province of Brescia). The meeting point is at the departure station of the Paradiso gondola lift at 9.00 am. At 10.30 am Holy Mass will be celebrated at a height of 2.573 m, close to the Brotherhood monument created by Emilio Serra. Followed by the traditional ceremony to honour the fallen and speeches by authorities.
