In the spaces of the "Civic Gallery" of Trento, the Mart dedicates an exhibition to the Trentino artist "Annamaria Gelmi" from 12 July to 6 October 2024, entitled "The instability of the limit" whose works are distinguished by extreme simplicity and cleanliness. Throughout his long career, Gelmi has participated in important exhibitions in Italy and abroad, attracting the attention of well-known art critics. The exhibition is a true tribute that traces the artist's entire career. Born in Trento in 1943, she trained at the Trento Art Institute, the Brera Academy in Milan and the Venice Academy. He held his first exhibition in Bolzano in 1968: during this period he began to work with materials such as Plexiglas, methacrylate and other plastics. Thus are born works that play with transparency and with space, composed of large sheets of acetate and elementary geometric shapes.
At the beginning of the 1980s, he moved away from black and white minimalism to embrace color: the works that characterize this phase are characterized as memories of history and fragments of architecture
classics (colonnades, pediments, labyrinths), all designed on Japanese paper. In the 1990s, architectural elements became a sign, a symbolic reference. The color becomes stronger and induces you to perceive the
space as a mental condition in which a different, ambiguous and absolute vision can arise. In this period the artist creates sculptures/installations in iron, stone and brass, and publishes the book SKY LINE,
presented at the 46th Venice International Biennale.
Iron works and large installations belong to the last two decades, marked by numerous and remarkable exhibitions.
The exhibition was held with the support of Rotari.
