From hiking boots to swimming trunks

Find here 4 excursions topped up with a refreshing swim in crystal clear waters

On top of your hiking boots, windbreaker and water bottle, pack your swimming gear. Yes, you heard it right! You will need it, because what we are suggesting in this article involves… a final dip! Four mountain excursions to do on fine summer days.

Lace up your boots and set off on an excursion, slowly reaching high altitudes, where you can enjoy truly scenic breaks. On the way back, swap boots for your swimming trunks and venture into open-water. Choose your diving deck between Lake Garda, Lake Ledro or the more elevated Lake Molveno.

The forts of Monte Brione - Lake Garda

Due to its strategic position, Monte Brione was chosen as a bulwark during the First World War. A walk to discover the history of Monte Brione’s forts is a must. After a relaxing day on Lake Garda, basking in the sun and doing one of the many sports it offers, you can walk up Monte Brione and discover fantastic views of the lake. The itinerary leaves from Porto San Nicolò and continues along the Sentiero della Pace (Peace Path).

Mountain Hut Pernici – Lake Ledro

A pool of pristine turquoise water is calling for a swim on a hot summer day. Lake Ledro is the perfect starting point for a hike to the Pernici refuge. After crossing the village of Pieve, continue following the directions for Val Concei. Join the path for Malga Trat and, in about half hour, reach the mountain hut, managed by Marco Deguelmi, offering regional staple food and 30 beds.

Mountain Hut San Pietro – Lake Tenno

A lovely terrace overlooking Lake Garda, a stone’s throw away from Lake Tenno. The Rifugio San Pietro (mountain hut) is famous for its breathtaking views, but also because to reach it you pass through a village that is a member of the Club of “The Most Beautiful Villages in Italy”: Canale di Tenno (“Borghi più Belli d’Italia”). You can start off from Lake Tenno: after taking a dip in its waters, put on your boots and you can walk up to the mountain hut along a smooth paved road that passes through quaint medieval villages.

Malga Andalo Mountain Hut - Molveno Lake

It’s not the shortest of walks (about 3 hours outbound) but you’ll be rewarded by the view. You set off from the car park on the shores of Molveno lake and make your way up through the woods until you reach the Malga Andalo Hut (currently under renovation). Here you can enjoy the panorama across the lake and the Brenta Dolomites before returning to the lake along the same route and maybe take a refreshing swim.
