The latest news on Trentino’s ski season!

In Pinzolo the spectacular underground stations, in harmony with the landscape

WINTER 2023/2024 – Trentino is ready for the ski season! This season sees a host of innovations, with special attention paid to the quality of services, the reduction of energy consumption and the reduction of CO2 emissions. Like every year, we offer a broad range of services and facilities, including 227 ski lifts, among the most modern in the Alps, serving 800 km of slopes where 90% of snow is always guaranteed from December to April.

The protagonists are the two large areas that bring together the majority of Trentino’s ski areas: Dolomiti Superski, the largest ski carousel in the world, includes the ski areas of Val di Fassa, Val di Fiemme and San Martino di Castrozza-Passo Rolle, and Skirama Dolomiti Adamello Brenta, which includes the Campiglio Dolomiti di Brenta ski area (the largest in Trentino), Alpe Cimbra, Monte Bondone, Paganella, Peio and Passo Tonale

Before hitting the slopes, however, let’s take a look at what’s new for 2023-2024!

A new cable car, “underground” stations and a gourmet refuge: exciting new facilities in the Campiglio - Brenta Dolomites ski area

A series of crucial interventions concern all areas of the Campiglio - Dolomiti di Brenta ski area. The keywords? Retrain, renew, improve, all with a social, environmentally responsible approach.

The area affected is that of Prà Rodont and Doss del Sabion, where over the summer the old ski lift was replaced with a new and more modern 10-seater cable car and the valley and mountain stations were renovated, harmonising them with the surrounding landscape. In addition, the restyling and expansion of the Doss del Sabion Refuge - Restaurant Bar, at 2,101 m above sea level, was carried out.

The new single-cable automatic detachable cable car, with continuous movement, covers the stretch from Prà Rodont to the summit. Among the 53 new cabins, one is equipped with a transparent floor so users can feel “suspended in the void”. When designing the system, particular attention was paid to implementing an environmentally sustainable system (fewer number of supports and cabins).

Particularly interesting is the intervention to redo the two departure and arrival stations, which were completely underground in order to conceal them and thus harmonise with the natural environment.

Once you exit the lift, you can access the slope directly or go up, via escalators or lift, to the all-new Rifugio Doss del Sabion. A point of reference for skiers looking for refreshment since the opening of the facilities in 1969, the building is now being expanded and made more functional with the creation of a bar overlooking the Brenta Dolomites, a new bistro on the second floor, and a terrace, served by a dedicated kiosk where you can have lunch “out in the open” to enjoy the unique 360º panorama that ranges from the Brenta Dolomites to the Adamello and Presanella massifs. This is another structure where particular attention has been paid to limiting emissions into the atmosphere: it is equipped with photovoltaic systems on the roof to reduce energy consumption.

At Madonna di Campiglio, which also adopts a “pay per use” ski pass route, the snowmaking system has been created in the Campo Scuola area of Passo Campo Carlo Magno with latest generation snow generators.

PAGANELLA

In Andalo a new 10-seater cable car and investment in renewables

La Paganella, too, announces important news for the upcoming ski season. In the school camp in Laghet di Andalo the historic two-seater chairlift is flanked by a modern and functional 10-seater automatic detachable gondola called “Baby Express”. The new facility, 395 m long with a difference in altitude of 113 m, will serve the new section of the blue slope dedicated to beginners which starts from “Ferna”, just below the “Prati di Gaggia”, and connects with the Laghet slope.

Together with the project to improve the valley returns, which last year saw the doubling of the Gaggia slope and the final stretch of the Cacciatori slope is theexpansion of the Olimpionica I slope and the remodelling of the slope surface to make it easier to use even for less experienced skiers, and to improve snow coverage.

The replacement of the snowmaking system network with the installation of 12 new state-of-the-art snow generators is also foreseen.

In the Snowpark Dosson, following the previous expansion works, new structures dedicated to snowboarders and freeriders will be installed.

Paganella Ski invests in renewable energy: three photovoltaic systems were installed on the roofs of the valley station of the Dosson-Selletta cable car, of the Family Chalet Dosson and of the administrative offices in the village. This intervention will allow the production of approximately 500,000 kWh of sustainable energy per year, equal to what is consumed for the operation of the ski lifts during the summer season (May to October).

VAL DI FIEMME, FASSA, SMART

Val di Fiemme, Val di Fassa and San Martino di Castrozza

Moving east, into the Dolomite ski areas, the Alpe Cermis renovates the cabins of the system that goes from Cavalese to Doss Laresi, while the snowmaking system has been further strengthened in the Latemar Ski Center and San Martino, where 20 new next-generation snow guns have been introduced.

Introduction of new technologies for the control of programmed snow networks and the strengthening of these networks is the common denominator of the interventions in the ski areas of the Val di Fassa, perhaps not directly noticeable by visitors but aimed at making the experience on the Dolomite snow safer and more enjoyable, ready for the end of February 2024 when the women’s Alpine Skiing World Cup will arrive on the LaVolata slope at Passo San Pellegrino.

On the Ciampedìe we can see the expansion of the boardercross route and the Cigolade and Tomba slopes, while in the Canazei di Belvedere - Col Rodella ski area, a new accumulation basin has been created for the snowmaking system network and the “Cinque Dita” slope in the area has been improved in the Col Rodella area.

ALPE CIMBRA

The US National Alpine Skiing Team returns to Alpe Cimbra

A new chairlift will come into operation on Alpe Cimbra, at Passo Coe. Not only that, this year too the Alpe Cimbra – Folgaria Skiarea hosts the athletes of the US Alpine Skiing Team on the Salizzona slope and the Agonistica slope. Ryan Cochran-Siegle, silver medal in super-G at the Beijing 2022 Winter Olympic Games, will once again be the testimonial of Alpe Cimbra.
