The history of the Canalone Miramonti
Designed in 1940 by Bruno Detassis, the “Lord of the Brenta Dolomites”, a renowned mountaineer and director of the first ski school in Madonna di Campiglio, the Canalone Miramonti hosts the World Cup, and the 3Tre: the well-known night event, now a recurring event of the FIS calendar.
Perhaps not everyone knows that the first edition of the 3Tre competition dates back to 1950, when it was organised in three Trentino ski areas (hence the name of the race): Paganella, Serrada di Folgaria and Bondone.
In 1967, the Canalone hosted the first Italian slalom of the World Cup competition. Three French skiers won the top three places in the inaugural competition of this World Circuit that was held in Italy.
Here, Stenmark, the greatest skier of all time, won 8 times, while Tomba, the best Italian skier ever, was the first to cross the finish line in 1987, 1988 and 1995.
