Spring on Trentino’s lakes: adventure, water sports and lots of fun for kids
5 lake activities to do with your children in spring
Deep blue pristine water, mild temperatures, vast grassy shores and spectacular mountains in the backdrop: the Italian Alps lakes offer oodles of family activities to fill an entire spring break weekend. Whether you are looking for an active holiday or simply a relaxing place in the sun, here are 5 must-do activities for you and your family to enjoy the great outdoors and re-energize in contact with water.
If you are looking for a bit of adventure, we recommend climbing the magnificent cliffs around Lake Garda. If you are craving for relaxation instead, there’s nothing better than a walk around the lake. At Easter, don’t miss Chocomusic in Riva del Garda, a food festival with tastings, cooking demonstrations, and workshops for everyone.
There’s no better way to discover those hidden spots you can’t reach by foot, those deserted wild little coves: canoeing on Lake Ledro is a beautiful activity to do with your children. It’s easy, with no fuss, just hire a canoe and paddle your way slowly into nature. Go before 11 am and after 5 pm, when it’s less windy and the water is calmer.
Canyon Rio Sass
The Rio Sass canyon is found in the heart of Fondo and has been shaped by the water, as it flows through the town. Since 2001, a thrilling - particularly for children - path is available and takes visitors on a tour of its swirling waters and waterfalls as well as to admire its cliffsi, fossils, stalagmites and stalactites.
Bike & Canoeing
Go canoeing on the lakes of Levico and Caldonazzo, both awarded Blue Flag for their pristine water. If you like the lake but prefer being on its shores, take advantage of the sunny spring weather and go cycling on the Valsugana bike track, just a stone throw away from Lake Caldonazzo shoreline, across the blossoming apple orchards and along the river Brenta.
Take a break from the action and sit down on the grassy shores of Lake Serraia on Piné Highland. Dessert is already taken care of: taste the delicious ice-cream at Agrigelateria, made only with locally sourced ingredients. Strawberries, raspberries and blueberries are in fact grown in the local fields, picked daily and served fresh on ice-cream.
