The perfect base for mountaineers wanting to climb the Presanella, the Rifugio Segantini also offers an exceptional view over the Brenta Group, with its Dolomitic spires reflected in the area’s many lakes. There are in fact two refuges: the old stone cube-shaped building (the third hut built by the SAT (Association of Trentino Mountaineers) in Trentino) and the more recent one, built in the seventies. There is also a stone-built church. It’s easy to get to and walkers who come knocking at the door of this historic refuge, dedicated to the painter Giovanni Segantini, will have the secrets of the high mountains unveiled to them by mountain guide, Egidio Bonapace, the warden. Much more demanding is the Alpine route to Rifugio Stavel “Francesco Denza” over the top of the Presanella on marked out paths partly on ice (7 hours, difficulty EEA).
